After winter, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness and stabiliser all need testing and correcting before chlorine will work effectively.

What the opening visit includes
Every opening visit follows the same thorough process. Nothing is skipped, and everything is documented so you know exactly what state your pool is in at the start of the season.
Specifically, the visit covers six key stages — from cover removal through to chemical balance and handover.

Cover removal & clean
We remove, clean and store or fold your winter cover. Any standing water or debris on top is dealt with first to prevent contamination of the pool.

Pool clean & vacuum
The pool is brushed and vacuumed to remove any settled debris, algae or sediment that has accumulated over the winter period.

Equipment inspection
Pump, filter, heater, valves and pipework all checked for leaks, wear or damage before the system is started up for the season.

Full water test
pH, total alkalinity, free chlorine, calcium hardness and stabiliser tested on site. We need accurate readings before adding any chemicals.

Chemical balance & shock
Chemicals are adjusted in the correct order — alkalinity first, then pH, then chlorine shock — to bring the water into a safe, swimmable condition.

Handover & advice
We leave you with a clear picture of your pool’s condition, anything to watch over the coming weeks, and honest advice on keeping it in good shape through the season.
What’s checked during the equipment inspection
In addition to the chemical work, every piece of equipment is inspected individually. Here’s what that covers.

Pump & motor
Checked for operation, unusual noise, seal condition and any signs of leaks at unions or fittings. Pump baskets cleaned.

Filter
Inspected for condition, pressure tested on start-up and backwashed or cleaned as required. Sand condition assessed if due for a change.

Heater or heat pump
Started up and checked for correct operation, any fault codes, flow rate and heat output. Pipework connections inspected for winter movement.

Valves & pipework
All valves operated and checked for ease of movement and correct function. Pipework and unions inspected for any cracking or leaks caused by frost.

Skimmers & returns
Skimmer baskets cleaned, weirs checked and return fittings inspected. Flow confirmed through all return points before chemistry work begins.

Pool shell & liner
Visual inspection of the pool shell or liner for any cracking, lifting, fading or damage that has developed over winter and needs attention.
